Tessa Souter / Hristo Vitchev Duo:

Join world renowned NY jazz vocalist Tessa Souter and Bulgarian/Bay Area modern jazz guitarist Hristo Vitchev for a very special duet performance.

Tessa Souter:

As a jazz vocalist with a sumptuous sound and an unerring ear for fresh and unexpected material, Tessa Souter knows her way around the American Songbook’s back pages. But ever since the release of her 2004 debut, Listen Love, the Anglo Trinidadian singer has cast an increasingly wide net, often contributing original lyrics to instrumental jazz standards. On her ravishing 2013 masterpiece Beyond the Blue (Motéma) – a Sunday Times magazine Best Album of the Year – she even set lyrics to beloved themes from the European classical canon. Her next album, Picture in Black and White  (due for release in 2018) is her most personal and universal yet, a riveting musical account of the journey launched by her discovery at age 28 that her birth father was black. It’s another revelatory step by an artist on a decidedly unconventional path.

Hristo Vitchev:

Referred by the media as one of the newest and most innovative voices in modern jazz guitar and voted “Rising Star on Guitar” by DownBeat Magazine, Hristo Vitchev’s music has been captivating audiences all across the globe. At only age 37, he has already released nine critically-acclaimed albums as a leader plus four more releases as a co-leader.
“Vitchev’s sophisticated and adventurous work is imbued with shimmering harmonies and lyrical improvisations.” – JazzTimes
“Vitchev’s multihued compositions are like impressionistic sound paintings.” – JAZZIZ
“Hristo Vitchev may be one of the best kept secrets in jazz today. He is the epitome of sonic gold.” – Critical Jazz
“Bulgaria-born, Bay Area-based guitarist Hristo Vitchev, having firmly established himself as a gentle giant in the contemporary jazz scene, seems always willing and able to reinvent himself while holding true to the integrity of his artistry.” – ECM REVIEWS
Originally from Bulgaria, but now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the impressionistic guitarist combines elements of classical, modern jazz, folk, and avant-garde sonic hues in his music. He has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz clubs and festivals in the world and continues to amaze both critics and audiences alike with his imaginative, lyrical and illustrious writing.
He has toured nationally and internationally, appearing at some of the most prestigious jazz clubs and festivals all over the globe, and has also performed guitar clinics in Europe and Japan.
